About the workshop

The UAE Board on Books for Young People (UAEBBY) invites Emirati illustrators to participate in the second phase of the Books Made in UAE project—a specialized workshop focusing on illustrating Emirati folktales. This immersive three-day workshop will be conducted by the renowned artist and painter Magdy El Kafrawy.

This workshop is part of the second phase of the Books Made in UAE project, focusing on visually interpreting Emirati folktales collected and rewritten by Emirati authors in the project's first phase. Participants will refine their artistic skills under the guidance of Magdy El Kafrawy, paying close attention to heritage details that will be expressed through the power of visual storytelling.

Through hands-on exercises, discussions, and expert critiques, illustrators will explore how to capture the essence of folktales, emphasizing cultural authenticity, intricate heritage elements, and storytelling through imagery.
